Auckland Anniversary weekend 2017 saw the celebration of traditional waka in the Viaduct, Auckland City and Waititi was right in the centre of it all.

It was an experience of a lifetime to be a part of the Waka Parade for our rangatahi and our wider whānau. What a privilege to paddle next to Kotūiti Tuarua (Waka Taua from Ngāti Paoa), Hinemoana (Waka Tangata from Mataatua), Aotearoa One & Haunui (Waka Hourua). Our young people had the chance to enter into the Waka Tangata races as well. They also helped give over 600 people in the wider Auckland community the opportunity to experience paddling on Kahakura over the two day event.

Thank you to those paddlers, Hariata, Scarlett, Tarryn, Lionel (when he was able to make it around his rigorous Shortland Street timetable), along with the wider whānau as well, Jose, Piripi, Whaea Natalie, Matua Malo, Whaea Ruby and Pia.
